BIOGRAPHY
“Intuition—or, in other words, improvisation”—were the first words Anastassiya Petrova’s mentor said when she decided to shift her musical path from classical music to jazz.

Anastassiya Petrova is a jazz pianist and organist from Kazakhstan, currently based in New York City, after spending eight years living and working in Boston, MA. She has been playing piano since the age of five, developing a voice deeply rooted in improvisation, groove, and global jazz traditions.

In 2015, Anastassiya was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music, where she later became a member of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute. There, she was mentored by legendary artists including Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Terri Lyne Carrington, George Garzone, Ben Street, and others. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Performance and Professional Music from Berklee College of Music and a Master’s degree in Global Jazz Performance from the Berklee Global Jazz Institute.

Throughout her career, Anastassiya has shared the stage with acclaimed musicians such as Chris Potter, Grace Kelly, Noah Preminger, Lakecia Benjamin, Walter Smith III, Dave Liebman, Adam Cruz, Catherine Russell, Terri Lyne Carrington, and many others. As an active performer in New York City, she has appeared at renowned venues including The Jazz Gallery, Smoke Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, and The Bitter End. She is currently a part of Grace Kelly Quartet, Marel Hidalgo Organ Trio, Fleur Seule, and Women Of The World vocal group.

Her recording credits include a feature on a Grammy-nominated album by Lakecia Benjamin, as well as participation in Chant for the Planet, a recording featuring multiple Grammy-winning artists. Anastassiya has also performed at major international festivals such as Umbria Jazz Festival (Italy), Panama Jazz Festival (Panama), Monterey Jazz Festival, Beantown Jazz Festival (MA), Wave of Ideas (Bulgaria), Angel City Jazz Festival (CA), Exit Zero Jazz Festival (NJ) and Winter Jazz Festival (NYC), Additional appearances include TEDx Talks at Suffolk University and a performance on The Voice (Kazakhstan).

In addition to her performance career, Anastassiya is an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music and the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she continues to mentor and inspire the next generation of musicians.
